Abstract
The notion of view is ubiquitous in information management, and
is used in one form or another in several application contexts, such as
databases, data warehouses, data integration, data exchange, access
control, personal information management, mobile computing, the
semantic web, etc. In all the above contexts, the problem may
arise of processing a query on the basis of the content of the views,
rather than on the raw data. The course will illustrate a comprehensive
theoretical framework for the problem, and will investigate formal
methods, techniques, and tools for addressing several issues related to
view-based query processing. The main application areas that will be
considered include data integration, data exchange, the semantic web,
and semistructured data management.
