Level 1 - The Great Wall

You start with Lara at the beginning of the Great Wall of China. You have just been dropped off by a helicopter. Run foward and you will see Lara look up and watch the helicopter fly away. Keep going forward and you will see some water to your right. Run into the water (picture at left). Move quick now...there be tigers here. Wade in the water until you reach the back wall.

Now turn left and walk up out of the water until you reach the next wall. Turn left and go forward. Climb up onto the ledge in front of you. Go forward up the slope until you dead end at a wall and turn left. Walk to the edge of the ledge and get ready to jump.

Jump across to the ledge. Don't fall or you might get eaten by the tiger :). Turn back towards the right and jump to the new walkway that you can see. Follow it forward until you reach the wall and turn left. Now keep going until you reach a new ledge and climb up onto it. Once there, turn completely around. Walk to the edge of the ledge and take one step backwards. Now do a running jump across to the new ledge.

Walk forward to wall and turn right. Walk to edge of ledge and jump across. Walk forward until you reach SECRET #1!!! Pick up the little white dragon. Now go back and jump across to where you were. Walk forward and climp up onto small ledge. Turn left and climp up onto next small ledge. Turn right and climb up wall. Now turn left and walk to the edge. Take one step back

and do a running jump across to the ledge in front of you. Now turn to your right and climb up the wall into the new room. Walk into the new room and turn to the right. Walk to the grating on the floor. The grating will drop down and Lara will fall into the water below. Turn around and swim to the steps. Walk to the highest step and get ready to jump across. Do a running jump across and grab onto the ledge. Pull Lara up and then pull the lever. Jump back across and go to the newly opened door and out onto the Great Wall! Draw your weapons (preferably your pistols...that shotgun ammo is scarce) and kill the 3 birds that will attack.

Put away your weapons now cowboy and go forward to where the wall seems to have crumbled some (see picture on left). Slide down the slope and into the water. Swim down and enter the little cave on the right. Swim down into the cave and retrieve the key laying on the floor. Turn around and swim back up for air or Lara won't feel too good.

Climb out of the water and quickly draw your guns. Shoot the tiger that attacks. You may need to jump around while you are firing to keep from getting too badly hurt. Holster your pistols. Turn towards the wall and climb up where the picture on the right indicates. Climb up onto to the Great Wall again and turn to the right. Use your newly discovered key on the lock beside the door and the door will open.

Draw your weapons and walk into the new room. Shoot all 3 spiders that come after you and then put away your guns. Climb up onto small ledge in front of ladder. Now climb up the ladder. When you reach the top quickly draw your guns and shoot the spider. Go to the right and pick up the key in the corner. Go back down and walk to the closed door at the back of the room. Use the key on the lock to the left of the door on the wall. The door will open. Draw your weapons (again) and walk down the hall into the new room. Shoot the 3 spiders that drop down out of the ceiling. Quickly turn around (End Key or 5 on the Numpad) and shoot the spider that was sneakin' up behind you. Put away your weapons. Now pick up the medi-pak and shotgun shells that are on the ground beside the skeleton.

Walk to the Movable Block (see picture at left). Get on either side of it and push it out of the way (press action and the up arrow). This will reveal a new passage way. Walk into the passage and turn right. Walk forward. Lara will slide down the slope. Go into the water. Turn left. Walk to the wall and jump up and grab onto the crack in the wall.

Hold on to the ledge and shimmy to the right (hold action and press right) until you can't shimmy any farther. Now drop down into the water and turn around. Swim up to the doorway that you can see. Stay to the left or right side of the doorway since there is a disc shooter right in the middle. Climb up and out of the water. Now run forward down the hall. See those dark gray floor panels? Those are collapsable floors. If Lara stands on them they fall and underneath them are spikes that kill Lara. Ouch! Run over them and into the new room. Two huge boulders will start rolling towards Lara. Run to your right and into the hallway. You will see some spikes on the floor. Run towards them and when you are a little bit in front of them jump over them. Lara will slide down a a slope and fall out into a new room. Uh oh! Out of the frying pan and into the fire as they say.

Now there are two walls with spikes on them closing in on Lara. Turn around until you see the trench in the floor. Run into the trench toward the opening in up on the wall. Hurry and jump up and grab the ledge and pull Lara to safety. If you want to try to grab the ammo, you can but it's really tough to grab it and still have time to climb up onto the ledge. It's possible though.

Now it's time to run down the hallway. Just remember to jump over the chopping blades and don't let Lara fall into the collapsable floor pit things with the spikes. Just keep running and hopping down the hallway and Lara should be okay.

Once you reach the end of the hallway turn to your left and you will see SECRET #2 sitting on the floor. Pick up the green little dragon but hurry becuase those spiked walls are closing in quickly. Now run forward down the hall. Just keep running and Lara will be fine. At the end of the hall is a slope. Lara will slide down it and fall out into a new room.

Quickly turn around to your left until you see the collapsable floor panel. Run over and stand on top of it. Lara will fall through narrowly missing getting killed by yet another spiked wall. Run out into the new room. Watch the big rolling wheel things. When it looks clear, pick up the small medi-pak on the cave floor. Now run forward making sure to stay clear of the big rolling wheel things. Draw your weapons. As you enter the new cave area and run around you will find spiders dropping down. Kill 'em. Now we get to see the T-Rexs.

To the right of the wire you can climb down. Turn away from the cliff and while pressing the action key press the down key so that Lara backs off the ledge where the picture (to the left) shows. Make sure to hold the action key down so that when Lara backs off the cliff she grabs on and doesn't fall. Now, make sure that you are as far to the left as you can be on the ledge. Drop down.

Now jump up and grab onto the crack in the wall. Shimmy to the right until Lara can climb up. Climb up and go forward to the wall and turn left. Run up the hall (stopping to pick up the flares). Now light a flare. Grab onto the wall with the ladder on it. Now still holding onto the wall move Lara to the right. When she's out over the drop start moving her down. It takes a minute but eventually Lara gets to the bottom. Drop down and run down the hallway and out into the cave again. Draw your weapons and get ready for a tough time. You might want to save the game first too. As you enter the greeness of the cave turn and run to your right. A big old T-Rex will greet you. Start shooting. There are lots of ways to kill the T-rex but use whichever way you like. Once he's dead go into the cave where he came out of.

You might want to light a flare because it can be kind of dark in that cave. At the back of the cave you will find the final secret, SECRET #3. Pick up the gold little dragon. Uh oh! Looks like picking up secret 3 triggered another T-Rex. Well, kill him too. Now go back to where you first climbed down into here. Climb back up and keep climbing until Lara climbs up onto a new ledge.

Go forward and drop down. If you didn't kill all the spiders before you might want to do it now. Go forward to the rope that goes through the cave. Stand in front of the rope at the cliff's edge and press and hold action. Lara will grab onto the handlebars and ride them all the way across the valley. Cool, huh? When she gets to the other side let go of the action key and Lara will drop down. Shoot the 2 tigers that show up. Now enter the entryway at the back. Turn right. See that door? That's the end of the level. Go to the door and watch the ending cut scene for level one.
