Bartoli's Hideout Some of the most challenging jumps and tricks await you here. This mission contains all of the basic elements - fire, water, air, and earth - and your task is to avoid the fire, use the water, fly through the air, and miss the ground. The game designers were also thoughtful enough to toss in a dash or two of grisly combat to keep it interesting . Slide, Jump, Grab! Pull the switch, return to the big door, and blast your way into the building. After things settle down, jump through the bank of windows on the left for a Small Medi Pack, Flares, and some Automatic Pistol ammo - and a pack of rabid dogs. Then go to the sword-wielding statues in the hallway, just past the now-shattered windows. Evading the sword trap is only difficult because it's hard to tell exactly where Lara is standing. A simple hop at the right moment will see you past each one without taking any damage. Yank the switch in the darkness (now aren't you glad you got those flares), and return to the center of the room. It's time to practice those slide-jumps. Jump backwards onto the tall wooden wall, then jump forward and grab. Jump when you're three-quarters of the way down the ramp and immediately hit your grab button.
If you nail the jump and make the grab, Lara will be hanging from the ledge. Pull up and hook around left to the block. Push it twice to move it out of the way; then turn left and size up your jump. A perfectly timed run and jump should get you over the balcony railing. Approach the wall and climb it over the balcony to the hole in the right wall. Once on the balcony outside, pick a straight line to the red awning and go.
Nail the grab button as soon as she lands and keep it down. Hand over hand to the end of the awning, then pull up and hit the jump button. Lara will perform an elegant back flip and land squarely on the balcony that's opposite the awning. Dash for the wooden platform and get ready to grab.
Hop over the next red awning, then drop over the far side and land on a platform. From there, it's an easy run-jump to the opening across the canal - be sure to get out your favorite dog-killing apparatus as you run up the stairs. Bartoli's Hideout, continued |
