• a lab exam, in which the student has to write, compile, and execute on a PC a simple Java program according to a given specification;
• a written part, in which the student has to write (on paper) a Java program according to a given specification.

During the written part it will not be possible to consult any kind of material or to use pocket calculators or palm PCs. During the lab exam it will only be possible to consult the online Java API documentation. Moreover, it will not be possible to leave the exam room before the end of the exam. Students will have the possibility to discuss the grading during office hours.

All general exam regulations of the Free University of Bolzano/Bozen apply.

Notes about the lab exam:

• The lab exam is an integral part of the Introduction to Programming exam, and its primary purpose is to assess your ability to write, compile, and execute a Java program using an integrated development environment.
• In general, the lab exam is held the same day as the written exam (either before or afterwards, depending on the availability of a computer room).
• You have to take the lab exam together with the written part. This means that, if you did not pass the written part, you have to repeat also the lab exam, and vice-versa.
• The previous rule applies for all students, except for those that have passed the midterm lab exam. The midterm lab exam is valid for all three exam sessions of the current academic year, and students that have passed it have to take just the written part and the oral part of the exam.
• The bonus point for correctly solving all exercises was given only for the midterm lab exam, and will not be assigned for the regular lab exams.

• You should bring an ID card with photo (Campus Card, personal ID, driving license, etc.) to prove your identity.
• You are not allowed to consult notes, books, or online documentation, except for the Java API documentation, which will be available on the lab machines.
• You should develop the Java class and the client program in all their parts, respecting the given specification.
• For a positive evaluation of the lab exam:
  1. the Java class in Part 1 should compile and the provided test client program should run correctly with the class;
  2. the class should be developed according to the methodological guidelines studied in the course (e.g., instance variables should be declared private and access should be provided through suitable get and set methods).
