I am a researcher in the faculty of Computer Science, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. My research currently focuses on mobile recommender systems that suggest products and services personalized to on-the-go users' needs and preferences at their particular context.
I've designed and developed a mobile recommendation methodology that integrates long-term and session-specific user preferences, employs a case-based model of the on-the-go decision problem and solution, uses a composite query representation, and exploits a critique-based conversational approach. The recommendation methodology has been implemented in MobyRek, a mobile phone on-tour recommender system that assists on-the-go users in searching for their desired travel products (restaurant). A number of live-user and simulation tests have demonstrated that the recommendation methodology is a viable design solution for mobile recommender systems.
Designing an effective and usable mobile recommender system requires the proposed recommendation methodology to address challenging problems, such as elicitation of user preferences, building the system's initial guess of the user's preferences, system learning from the user interactions, visualization and explanation of system recommendations, push-based (proactive) mobile recommendations, mixed-initiative system-user dialogues, design of on-line and off-line tests of mobile recommender systems, etc. If you are interested in such problems, and mobile recommender systems in general, I expect to hear your ideas and have discussion on our shared interests.
