Level 8 - Wreck of Maria Doria

Kill the scuba-divers and surface out of the water and climb into the opening. Approach the hole in the floor and make sure your health is maxed out because it is a long drop and cannot be avoided, Lara WILL take damage. Do a safety drop through this hole and kill some bad guys.

Make your way to the green colored blocks in the corner. There are two blocks and you need to get both of them out of the way to reveal two passages. The first secret is close by. Put your back to the green blocks and go to the diagonally opposite corner of the room and jump behind the broken deck chairs. Climb into the hole in the ceiling and keep going - killing bad guys en route - till you reach the end of the passage, do a safety drop and collect Secret #1. Make your way back to the green blocks.

Approaching the blocks take the right hand passage to enter a big room which is actually the ball room of the wrecked ship lying upside down. First get rid of the bad guys. When they are dead, go to the entrance of the ball room. Go straight sticking to the wall on your left and you will notice a razor trap on the floor. Run towards the diagonally opposite corner. Here you will find a small ramp of sorts, walk to the edge of this ramp and jump and grab the ledge above and pull yourself up. This is the ONLY place to climb on to the next higher level in this room. After climbing up keep going left, you have to remain on this ledge till you directly above the razor trap you just saw. To clear the obstacles blocking your way, just hang on to the edge and shimmy to the left. While going left you will see a door that is closed, keep this in mind.

When you reach the edge overlooking the razor trap align yourself for a running-jump-grab, if you miss, Lara lands on the razor blades, ewwww. Pull up after having cleared the jump and get the first circuit breaker, one down, two to go. Do a safety drop from the ledge with the circuit breaker (no, a safety drop on the razor trap won't work :)). Once on the floor WALK into the passage to your right, don't run if you value Lara's life.

Walk through the spikes to the hole in the floor. Put your back to the edge of the hole while you are facing the entrance to this room and do a safety drop to hang on to the edge - do not fall. When you are hanging on, let go of the edge and immediately press the action key again to hang on to the next lower edge. Pull up in this opening and go to the end of the passage to get a key. Walk back to the edge of the pit and do a standing jump-grab, pull up and WALK out of the room. Go back to the green blocks and take the second passage that was revealed when you moved them.

In this area you have to go to the upper right corner (opposite the glass doors) where you will find a lock, use the key on this lock to open the door and enter the new area. Inside is a switch that opens the glass doors. Throw the switch and go through the glass doors and use the switch you find there. This switch will open the door that you saw while you were shimmying left on the ledge in the inverted ball room, so lets go there. However showing some good manners it is a good idea to close the glass doors again. So run back to the switch that opened the glass doors and use it again to close them glass doors. Apart from good manners, you might want to know that you HAVE to keep them closed if you don't want travel back the whole way here when 90% of the level is over.

Ok, doors closed, run back to the ball room, again use the ramp in the right corner to climb up to the higher ledge and run left and go through the door you just opened. As you come here you will see another lock to your right and a long corridor going straight with hatches on both sides. You can open the hatches and explore them if you want. When you are done run through the corridor away from the lock to the farthest hatch in the right wall, open it and do a safety drop to the floor. A fairly simple puzzle presents itself here. There is a switch and a door, neither of which can be reached. There is however a moveable block in this room, so drag it around till it is below the switch, climb up and throw the switch to open the door. Go right from the switch and pull a block out of the wall, climb the block and then climb through the door.

You are now in a room with one block and a switch. Drag the block under the switch. Moving the block will also reveal another key. Grab the key. Pull the switch to open the door in this room, exit through the door and go right, use the key on the lock at the end of the corridor (or beginning of the corridor if you look at it from the entrance) and go into the newly opened area.

Lots of blocks here. What you have to do is drag a block on the floor and add it to the end of the row of blocks. Then climb up and start pushing and pulling the boxes except the one that is embedded into the wall. When you reach this block, keep pushing it deeper into the wall till a passage is revealed.

Following the passage you will arrive at an area will a collapsible floor with spikes under it. However the floor is just one half of the trap, the other half of the trap are drums that will come rolling from the right side the moment you step on the collapsible floor. You have two options here:

  1. easy way: run to the edge of the false floor and stop, wait for the drums to roll by, run across.
  2. cool way: stick close to the left wall and run like hell, at the edge of the collapsible floor do a mighty jump and another mighty jump immediately as Lara lands.

We are close to the Secret #2. Beyond the collapsible floor take an immediate right and you are facing the incline from where the drums rolled down. Look up into the right corner and there is an opening there. Climb up and as soon as you hear something heavy rolling down. Don't wait for visual confirmation and get out of there on the double. When the rolling drums are silent climb up again and run along to get the dragon.

Move away from the collapsible floor to enter the next area. You will see a hole in the floor and a boat floating beneath it. You will also see a ladder going up, so take it. At the top is a blue colored area, take a right at what looks like a broken wall and there is no where further to go. Get back to the area overlooking the boat. There is also a door next to the ceiling but it is closed. Do a safety drop through the hole to land on the boat. Dive into the water and locate the submerged lever. Pull the lever to open the door and start climbing upwards and go through the now open door. This door is timed so be quick. Once you are beyond the door, use the switch you find inside to keep it open.

As you go through the next door it will close behind you, don't worry about it. You will now find yourself on the edge of a slide, at the bottom of the slide is a trap door, and this is literally a trap door. The moment you start sliding towards the trap door it will open to reaveal the death lying beneath it. So at the edge of slide jump to the opposite side and keep the action key pressed so that Lara hangs on to the edge. Wait for the trap door to close then pull up. Take the passage on your left and pull the switch you find there. Return to the area overlooking the boat and take the ladder up to the blue colored area with the broken wall you saw earlier, a door has opened there.

Going through the door you will find yourself on the highest floor (or lowest, if you remember that the ship is lying upside down). Shoot the bad guys from here or shoot them later that is up to you, but since this area is again a timed puzzle you might want to get rid of the enemies first.

Go left from where you entered and you will reach a switch. This switch opens a trap door that provides access to the next lower level and is timed. So once you flip it, run as fast as you can and drop through the trap door.

If you step close to the circuit breaker on this platform you will open another timed trapdoor which you can use to climb back to the upper platform, but don't just get the circuit breaker and get out of here. First find another switch and flip it, this will drain all the water in the room with the boat. Then run over the location of the circuit breaker and climb up through the open trapdoor. If you don't make it in time just run over the circuit breaker's location and the trapdoor will open again. Once you are through get back to the room overlooking the boat and do a safety drop through the hole. Max your health because the draining of water has made the fall a long one. Open the hatch and go through it.

Keep following the path till you reach a hole in the floor. Do a safety drop and you have found the third circuit breaker, and if you take a look around you will find yourself behind the glass doors which you had closed to show your good manners. So you see if you had NOT closed these doors .... :)

Run to the other side of the wall from where you found the circuit breaker and pull the switch. Return to the passage and keep going right till you reach yet another hole in the floor. Drop in and you are on the other side of the glass doors. Jog over to the green blocks you had used at the beginning of this level and run straight and take a right at the end till you are above a pool of water and dive. If you go up you will encounter a closed hatch, at the bottom take the passage that leads to a submerged lever. Pull the lever to open the hatch and swim upwards and climb through the hatch and get ready for some action.

Bad guys all dead, approach the fire pads. Next to each fire pad is a slot for a circuit breaker, use one circuit breaker on each slot and the fire pads are all out. Beyond the third fire pad is a block, pull it out till it is below opening in the wall above. Climb into this opening and follow the passage, wary of bad guys, till you find a switch. Pull the switch and go back to the edge of the entrance. Do a running jump-grab to the huge copper colored structure close to the ceiling. Clear all the copper colored structures by doing running jump-grabs. When you have cleared the jumps you will be in a passage with a deep pit, drop in.

As you move out of here you see a bright light flickering somewhere in the distance. Some fish will also make their appearance, run up the ramp drawing your guns to avoid using harpoon gun ammo. From here go to the upper left corner and climb up to the passage there.

Go left till you see a switch that cannot be reached, below the switch is a gap, there is also a block there but you can't move it because there is not enough room. Keep going leftwards from this switch till you reach another hatch with the steering wheel on it. Open this door and you will find a switch which is timed. Pull the switch and retrace your steps and run past the inaccessible switch heading for the open door ahead, be quick as the door will close after some time. Beyond the door is another block, push it into the wall and you have yet another switch. Well THIS switch will open a trap door in the area where you just opened the door with the steering wheel on it. This one is not timed. Run back all the way and turn left when you reach the door with the wheel on it.

Locate the trapdoor and drop through it. It is a long swim so be quick. Whatever you do keep the hull of the ship to your right and stick close to it. When you reach the end go left and among the plants growing on the sea floor you will find a key. Secret #3 is close by but if you don't have enough air, swim back to the trap door and come back when you are ready. From where you found the key go to the wall opposite to the ship's hull and swim along its side, you are looking for a tunnel. Go through the tunnel and go up to surface through the bright opening that you can see, climb out of here and get the dragon, make your way back to the trap door.

Climbing out of the trapdoor run past the inaccesible switch (keeping it to your left) and after you pass it take the first right and locate the door with a lock next to it. Use the key you have to open the door. Go inside and flip the switch. This will cause a trapdoor below the inaccessible switch to fall, make your way there. Now you can jump into the gap behind the block and push it below the switch. Climb up and throw the switch to open yet another trapdoor in the ceiling of the room you just opened with the key. Go back to the room and climb out of the trapdoor.

You will be on a high platform with razor blades sticking out of the floor far below you. There is only one place from where you can climb down. From where you entered this area go right and at the corner you will see a square gap. Max you health, put your back to the edge of this gap, drop back and hang on, let go, those razor blades wont even scratch you. Climb out of here and If you go left you will find a hole in the wall, go in and you are rewarded with a M16. Get back to the room with all those razor blades. You CAN climb down to each razor blade platform to collect the ammo and other items scattered there but be very, very careful, your first mistake will be your last mistake as well.

Try to take out as many bad guys as you can before jumping into the water, take the rest of them out with the harpoon gun. When they are dead locate some barrels that are half buried next to one of walls. Behind these barrels is a tunnel of sorts that you have to take. This tunnel also has some bad yellow colored fish that are not beneficial to human life. Keep swimming - don't bother trying to kill the fish if you are low on air - the exit is quite close.
