Teaching Goals
The focus of instruction will be on foundations of Language Technology, computaitional syntax and morphology, computational semantics, pragmatics and discourse, logic, computability and complexity, formal languages and algorithms, data structures, data organisation and processing, as well as advanced specilised topics in Language Technology, Computational Linguistics and Computer Science.
This knowledge is then applied to areas like natural language processing, the semantic web, the writing and document creation, information systems and database technology, the control of computers and other electronic devices using voice, the assistance of people with disabilities, the organisation and summarisation of large numbers of documents. Students acquire practical experience and become familiar in the use of tools within these applications.
Job Opportunities
Students are prepared for a future Ph.D., they come to contact with the international research community and are getting integrated into ongoing research projects. They develop competence in foreign languages and international relationships. Teachers and students are put in touch with prospective employers.
As the role of computers increases in our daily lives, businesses and industry are seeking experts who can improve the nexus between humans and machines. Computational linguists are at the forefront of development of applications in translation, voice recognition, automated e-mail response, search engines and other pioneering technologies. Graduates of this Masters Program will gain the expertise needed for employment as translational technology specialists and linguistic data specialists.
