MSc in Databases
The MSc in Computer Science offers a stream in databases: one of the core areas of computer science. Data is everywhere. It is hard to point to a serious real-world application that does not include a database to store, maintain, query, or visualize data. The development of expressive and efficient database systems is therefore of utmost importance to deal deal with the ever growing amount of data.
The database stream program is a two year study program with advanced courses in general computer science and an emphasis on advanced courses in database systems and related fields. The study program is completely taught in English.
The Database stream adopts a project-oriented approach. The essence of a project-oriented approach is that in each semester students are doing a mini-project that is associated with a selected database course of this semester. The students will work in small groups on practical and realistic problems. This allows, for example, to work with the same set of data during the whole study program, focusing on different aspects and problems in each mini-project.
Who should be interested? We encourage students who want to implement and evaluate algorithms to choose the database master stream. Having a good theoretical background is an asset. Students who are interested in analytical investigations and would like to work with the real word data or local companies have good opportunities to so during our master stream.
