Free University of Bozen-Bolzano

The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano was founded in 1997 as a free, state-recognized university. Today it incorporates four faculties: School of Economics and Management, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Computer Science, and Faculty of Design and Art. The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano aims to offer students a multilingual, practice-oriented education that meets the demands of the local and the European labour market. Lectures and seminars are held in German, Italian and English.

The Faculty of Computer Science began its teaching and research activities in the academic year of 2001/2002. With this step the University has included, amongst its courses and areas of research, a field of study has made rapid advances in recent years and has become indispensable in many spheres of today's living. While foundations and core subjects of computer science are examined, the application-oriented aspects of computer technology play a predominant role of our teaching. Courses are mostly taught in English and hence give Bozen-Bolzano a highly competitive edge. In addition to its application-oriented focus, the Faculty of Computer Science currently develops to broaden its research. This research, which includes the collaboration with the local economy, is intended to provide local businesses with a professional IT centre.

Bozen-Bolzano City

With its almost 100,000 German-speaking and Italian-speaking inhabitants, Bozen-Bolzano is the capital of the Province of South-Tyrol. Bozen-Bolzano is a multilingual business centre located in one of the most beautiful mountainous regions in Europe - the Dolomites.

Back in the 17th century Bozen/Bolzano was already a flourishing mercantile city that, thanks to its particular geographic position, functioned as a kind of bridge between northern and southern Europe. Today, the city unites the traditional with the modern. Young people and fashionable shops throng the city centre where ancient mercantile buildings are an attractive backdrop to a city that is in continual growth.

Bozen-Bolzano at the crossroads of two cultures where North meets the South has many attractions for tourists. A special attraction is the over 5,000 year old Iceman ("Ötzi") in the South Tyrol Museum of Archeology.
