Welcome Reception

Date:March 2, 2005
Time:8 pm
Location:Mercantile Building

The Mayor of the City of Bozen-Bolzano and the President of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano invite the conference participants to the welcome reception in the old Mercantile Building which is one of the most beautiful historical buildings of the city.

In the former Mercantile Building (Trade Court) with its opulent Hall of Justice, the tradition of fairs and markets in the international trading city of Bolzano-Bozen is brought to light. In addition to the architecture of the building itself, noteworthy exhibits include furnishings by the cabinetmaker Anton Katzler (1700-1730), paintings in the famous stateroom by Tyrolean Baroque artists, the documents with the regulations for the markets in Bozen, and the catalog of fabric samples.

Conference Dinner

Date:March 3, 2005
Time:8 pm
Location:Parkhotel Laurin, Laurinstrasse/Via Laurin 4

The Parkhotel Laurin is located in the historic centre of Bolzano, right in the heart of the pedestrian zone, where the town's famous Christmas market takes place every year. In the immediate vicinity, the elegant shops hidden under arched passageways invite you to a leisurely shopping experience, whereas the town's many artistic and historic sights are just waiting to be explored.

The hotel's outer and interior areas are decorated with a collection of paintings and sculptures that was put together with the help of the two art historians Mr. Andreas Hapkemeyer and Mr. Carl Kraus. The works of art round off the entire ensemble, giving the areas a particular touch and converting them into places, intended to give our guests a feeling of well-being and peace.

Guided Tour in the "Ötzi-Museum" with the Iceman

Date:March 4, 2005
Time:7 pm and 7:30 pm
Location:Provincial Museum of Archaeology, Museumstrasse/Via Museo 43

The Provincial Museum of Archaeology was inaugurated in 1998. In addition to its permanent exhibit 'The Iceman', it documents the prehistory and early history of South Tyrol from the end of the last Ice Age (about 15,000 BC) to the time of Charlemagne (around 800 AD). The museum offers an exciting trip through prehistoric times in the Alps. Relief models, reconstructions, stereoscopic images, videos, and interactive multimedia stations all make the journey back in time believable and, at the same time, entertaining. Inserted into the historical context, the heart of the exhibit is 'The Iceman', sometimes also called 'Ötzi', and the objects found with him. The internationally famous mummy from the Copper Age and the numerous, extremely well-preserved objects found with him provide a unique view of the way of life thousands of years ago.

Skiing (and other winter sports) at the "Seiser Alm - Alpe di Siusi"

Date:March 5, 2005
Time:8 am: Departure from Bozen-Bolzano
6 pm: Return to Bozen-Bolzano
Location:Seiser Alm

The Seiser Alm with its many varied reliefs, spacious ranges and bounteous panoramic viewpoints has always been one of the most impressive showpieces of the Alpine Area. Located in the Western Dolomites the Seiser Alm forms together with the "Schlern" and the "Lang- und Plattkofel" a compact, as well as an open high range area. The panorama stretches out between an altitude of 1700 and 3000 m, in an area of 5400 hectars, with many varying faces and aspects in winter and summer. Its breathtaking landscape offers guests and locals incomparable experiences of sports and nature, especially in winter. Stability of snow and a variety of sports and leisure facilities makes the Seiser Alm an ideal winter holiday resort for the entire family.

Note: If you intend to join us for the skiing event or to visit the "Ötzi-Museum", we kindly ask you to send an email to the conference secretariat (Klaudia Verginer) and confirm your participation.
